Hope House
Hope House is a discipleship/scholarship program with the purpose of bringing gospel-centered hope to young women in El Salvador. Our vision is to see young women’s lives transformed by the gospel, who then return to become agents of change for their families and communities.
How do we do this?
Education
In El Salvador many girls don’t finish grade school, let alone high-school. Because we believe that education can make all the difference in the future for these young woman and their families, we offer an opportunity to finish their education and continue on to pursue their dreams through a university education, or job skills training, depending on what their goals are.
Spiritual Growth
Hope House offers a community of young women who live together, work together and grow together towards a common goal: Spiritual and emotional maturity.
The residents are regularly involved in:
> Group Bible studies
> One-on-one discipleship
> Workshops
> Counseling
> Mentoring relationships
Life Skills Development
It is important to us that these our residents learn basic life skills, such as: budgeting, cooking, cleaning, household management, hygiene, etc.
On a day to day basis, the residents of Hope House are exposed to training and practices that will increase their level of skill in all of these areas.
The Plight of Women in El Salvador
Young women who live in small villages around rural El Salvador suffer from one of the highest incest and abuse rates in the world. Between the extreme poverty, and the very limited access to a decent education, most young women end up dropping out of school and becoming pregnant between 13-16 years of age. Eventually, the young woman and her child, are abandoned and left to fend for themselves. (The abandonment rate being around 80-90 percent, depending on the area.) The lack of education and the fact that they are left destitute, single moms, puts them, and their children at very high risk. As a result of desperation, they find themselves willing to compromise a safe, healthy relationship for the sake of food and a roof over their heads. So, the cycle starts again, with another man. It is devastating to the children and to the future hope of each young woman. Families are fractured and the depth of dysfunction is crippling. At Hope for Families, our vision is to intercede in the life of young women through our club program, and our discipleship/scholarship women’s home to teach them truth that will transform their lives and their future.
